New Wine

“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days”.

Joel 2:28,29

In the Old Testament the people of Israel enjoyed and benefited from the presence of the Holy Spirit only when He came upon kings, priests and prophets of God; and they were enabled to achieve specific tasks. It was a powerful experience that took place in the lives of these servants and all of Israel knew without a doubt that God was manifesting Himself through them.  It was wonderful to see a display of the supernatural presence and power of God in the midst of His people.

Some of those servants are David when he defeated Goliath, Elijah when he destroyed Baal’s prophets, Elisha and the widow’s oil, the shunammite’s son and the floating ax head to name a few.

The Israelites began to desire the presence of the Holy Spirit and the manifestations of His power for one thing was very clear, only when He was present, could they achieve great things.

In Acts 2:4 we find the fulfillment of the promise made by God in the Book of Joel. “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

This group of believers were filled by the power of God.  Now the glorious manifestation of the presence of God resides within the believer, enabling them to fulfill the will of God in their lives.  Now we have the power to overcome everything that opposes us and lead a victorious life thru the power of the Holy Spirit.

God is inviting us to be filled with the new wine which causes an inner transformation with an outward manifestation.  The word teaches us “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18

The effects of the new wine or the presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer will produce a supernatural display that will affect all areas of your life and it is wonderful to witness.  Only when He is present in our lives can we achieve great victory.
